Batata Vada & Lasoon Chutney

Batata Vada is a popular Indian vegetarian fast food in Maharashtra, India. It consists of a mashed potato coated with chickpea flour, then deep-fried and serve hot with lagoon chutney.

Ingredients:


For Batter:

  • 2 Tablespoons Chickpeas Flour (Besan)

  • 1 Teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste

  • 3/4 Teaspoon Chili Powder

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt

  • A Pinch Baking Soda


For Potato Masala:

  • 1 Kg Potatoes

  • 2 Tablespoons Oil

  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds

  • 6 Chopped Green Chilies

  • Few Chopped Curry Leaves

  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder

  • 1 Teaspoon Salt

  • Chopped Coriander Leaves


For Lasoon Chutney:

  • 10 Garlic Cloves

  • 2 Tablespoons Peanuts

  • 2 Tablespoons Sesame Seeds

  • 3 Tablespoon Coconut

  • 1 Teaspoon Chili Powder

  • 3/4 Teaspoon Salt

Method:

  1. In a bowl, take 3 tablespoons chickpeas flour (Besan), add 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste, 3/4 teaspoon chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, a pinch of baking soda and make a smooth batter by adding little water & keep it aside.

  2. Take 1 Kg of boiled potatoes and mash it.

  3. In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons oil, 1 teaspoon mustard seeds, add 6 chopped green chilies, few chopped curry leaves, add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, and mix well.

  4. Add mashed potatoes & mix well.

  5. Add 1 teaspoon salt, add chopped coriander leaves, mix well & keep it aside to cool.

  6. Make balls.

  7. Dip the potato ball in chickpeas batter & deep fry them.


For Lasoon Chutney

  1. Dry roast 10 garlic cloves, 2 tablespoons peanuts, 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, 3 tablespoon coconut.

  2. Roast them and put them in the grinder. Add 1 teaspoon chili powder, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and make a coarse powder.
