Chana Dal Masala Vada

1 Cup Chana Dal

2 Colocasia Leaves

5 Red Chilies

5 Green Chilies

1 Teaspoon Jeera Seeds

1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder

Salt as per taste

1/4 Teaspoon Coriander Powder

1/2 Teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste

1 Tablespoon Soaked Chana Dal

1 Teaspoon Ajwain Seeds

1/2 Cup Chopped Onions

1/2 Teaspoon Chaat Masala

Colocasia Stems Chutney

Chopped Stems

Few Garlic Pieces

Few Green Chilies

Soaked Tamarind

Salt as per taste


1. Soak the chana dal for 5-6 hours.

2. Chop the colocasia leaves and keep it aside.

3. Add soaked chana dal in the grinder and add 5 red chilies, 5 green chilies, 1 teaspoon jeera seeds. Grind it coarsely and take it to the bowl.

4. Add 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, salt as per taste, 1/4 teaspoon coriander powder, 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste, 1 tablespoon soaked chana dal, 1 teaspoon ajwain seeds, 1/2 cup chopped onions, and 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala. Mix well.

5. Heat oil in a Kadai and make patties with chana dal mixture.

6. Deep fry the patties in oil until golden brown. Take it out and serve hot with chutney.

Colocasia Stems Chutney:

1. Peel the skin from colocasia stems and cut them into pieces.

2. Add the pieces to the grinder and add few garlic cloves, few green chilies, soaked tamarind, salt as per taste.

3. Grind it into a smooth paste and serve it with chana dal vada.
