Gongura (Red Sorrel) Chicken

Gongura with chicken is a very popular and authentic dish of Andhra cuisine. Gongura chicken curry is a sour and hot curry which goes well with plain hot rice.

4 Cups Gongura
Oil as Required
1 Kg Chicken
4 Green Chilies
Water as Required
1 Chopped Onion
1 Teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
2 1/2 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
Salt as per taste
1/4 Teaspoon Coriander Powder
Heat 1 teaspoon of oil and add 3 bowls of gongura.
Add 1 small tomato and 4 green chilies.
Add 1 more bowl of gongura and cook for 5 minutes.
Add half a cup of water and cook until gongura is well done.
Mash the gongura and keep it aside.
Add 2 teaspoons of oil, add 1/2 cup chopped onions and fry until golden brown.
Add 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste, add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, add 1 kg chicken.
Add 2 1/2 teaspoons chili powder, add 1 teaspoon salt, and mix well. Close the lid and cook for 3 minutes.
Add 1 cup of water and cook until chicken is well done.
Add gongura paste and mix it well.
Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes, mix it well, and turn off the stove.
