Homemade Veg Haleem

Haleem is very popular in Hyderabad. Haleem originally is a stew composed of meat, lentil, and cracked wheat that is made into a thick paste. Instead of the meat, we used soya chunks in this recipe to give a slimy texture to the dish.

1 Cup Soya
1/2 Cup Cracked Wheat
1/4 Cup Oats
1 Cup Fried Onions
1/2 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
1 Tablespoon Black Pepper
1 Teaspoon Shahi Jeera
3 Sticks Cinnamon
4 - 5 Cardamom
5 - 6 Cloves
1/4 Cup Almonds & Cashews
1 Teaspoons Urad Dal
1 Teaspoons Moong Dal
1 Teaspoons Masoor Dal
1 Teaspoons Chana Dal
1 Teaspoons Sesame Seeds
2 Teaspoons Salt
1/4 Cup Rose Patels
2 Teaspoons Ginger Garlic Paste
2 Tablespoons Curd
5 Green Chilies
1/4 Cup Mint
1/4 Cup Coriander Leaves
2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
In a bowl, take 1/2 Cup Cracked Wheat, 1/4 Cup Oats, 1/2 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera), 1 Tablespoon Black Pepper 1 Teaspoon Shahi Jeera, 3 Sticks Cinnamon, 4-5 Cardamom, 5-6 Cloves, 1/4 Cup Almonds & Cashews, 1 Teaspoon Urad Dal, 1 Teaspoon Moong Dal, 1 Teaspoon Masoor Dal, 1 Teaspoon Chana Dal, 1 Teaspoon Sesame Seeds & mix them with a spoon and grind them into a coarse powder.
Boil 1 cup soya chunks for 5 minutes & drain it and keep it aside.
In a pressure cooker add 1 tablespoon ghee, ginger garlic paste & fry for 30 seconds and add soya chunks & mix them well.
Add chopped carrots, chopped beans & stir fry for 5 minutes.
Add 2 cups water, add green chilies, chopped mint, chopped cilantro, fried onions, curd, add dry ingredients powder, add 1 tablespoon salt, and mix it.
Add rose petals and add 1 cup water. Mix well and close the pressure cooker.
Cook for one whistle & open the pressure cooker cover add 1 cup water & cook for 30 minutes on low flame, take a potato masher and mash it into a paste.
Turn off the stove and serve hot.
