Falafel is a popular Middle Eastern “fast food” made of a mixture of chickpeas, fresh herbs, and spices that are formed into small patties or balls. It’s often served in sandwich form with a generous drizzle of tahini and loads of Mediterranean salad.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Chickpeas
- 1/4 Teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1/2 Cup Parsley
- 1/2 Cup Coriander Leaves
- 1 Small Onion
- 3 Cloves Garlic
- 3/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Tablespoon Pepper Powder
- 1/2 Tablespoon Cumin Powder
- 1/2 Tablespoon Coriander Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
- 1 Teaspoon Roasted Sesame Seeds
- Oil for Deep Fry
Method
Step 1
Soak 1 cup chickpeas overnight. Drain the water and dry the chickpeas on a paper towel.
Step 2
Add the chickpeas to the food processor and add 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 cup parsley, 1/2 cup coriander leaves, 1 small onion, 3 cloves garlic, 3/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 tablespoon pepper powder, 1/2 tablespoon cumin powder, 1/2 tablespoon coriander powder, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Grind all together.
Step 3
Take it to the bowl and add 1 teaspoon roasted sesame seeds. Mix well and put it in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Step 4

Make small balls and deep fry the chickpeas balls in the oil on medium heat until golden brown.
Step 6
Serve hot with Hummus.
