Dosakaya Prawns Curry – Andhra Style Dosakaya Royalla is a seafood curry recipe from Andhra where fresh prawns are cooked in onions, yellow cucumber Dosakaya), Indian spices, and masala. It goes well with plain rice or biryani, or pulao.


  • 200 Grams Shrimp (Prawns)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Teaspoons Salt
  • 2 Dosakaya (Yellow Cucumber)
  • 2 Tablespoons Oil
  • 1 Cup Sliced Onions
  • 5 Chopped Green Chilies
  • 2 Tablespoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 Cup Chopped Tomato
  • 1.5 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1.5 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Tamarind Water
  • Chopped Coriander Leaves


Step 1

Take 200 grams of shrimp and add 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste. Mix well and marinate it for 10 minutes.

Step 2

Add marinated shrimp to the pan and add 1/2 teaspoon salt. Sauté shrimp until all the water evaporate. Keep the shrimp aside.

Step 3

Peel the dosakaya skin and cut it in half. Take out the seeds and cut them into pieces.

Step 4

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil and add 1 cup sliced onions, 5 chopped green chilies. Sauté well and cook for 2 minutes.

Step 5

Add 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, and mix well.

Step 6

Add 1 cup chopped tomatoes, mix well, and cook for 2 minutes.

Step 7

Add 1.5 teaspoon red chili powder, add 1.5 teaspoon salt, and mix well.

Step 8

Now, add 2 chopped dosakaya and mix well. Close the lid and cook for 3 minutes.

Step 9

Take out the lid and mix well. Cook for another 3 minutes.

Step 10

Add cooked shrimp and mix well. Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes.

Step 11

Add 1/2 cup tamarind water and mix well—Cook for 3 minutes.

Step 12

Add chopped coriander leaves and turn off the stove.
