Bellam Thalikalu is a classic festival dish that is usually prepared for Vinayaka Chavithi. Thalikalu are small and thin noodles prepared with whole wheat flour. These hand made noodles are cooked in a flavored jaggery syrup and poppy seeds and grated coconut. Garnished with cardamon and nuts.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Wheat Flour
- 1 Cup Jaggery
- 3 Cups Water
- 1 Tablespoon Ghee
- 2 Tablespoons Grated Coconut
- 1 Tablespoon Poppy Seeds
- 3 Tablespoon Wheat Flour
- 1/2 Teaspoon Elachi Powder
- Cashew
- Raisins
- Chironji
Method
Step 1
Take 1 cup of wheat flour, add little water, and make a smooth dough.
Step 2
Take 1/2 cup wheat flour on a plate and make thalikalu. Put them in the dry wheat flour.
Step 3
Once done making the thalikalu take out the extra wheat flour.
Step 4
Add 1 cup jaggery and 3 bowl of water. Mix until all the jaggery dissolves.
Step 5
Add 1 tablespoon ghee and thalikalu. Mix and cook for 5 minutes.
Step 6
Add 2 tablespoons of grated coconut, 1 tablespoon poppy seeds, and cook until the thalikalu is well done.
Step 7
Add 3 tablespoons of wheat flour and add water. Make its liquid consistency.
Step 8
Add the wheat flour mixture to the boiling payasam. Cook for 2 minutes and turn off the stove.
Step 9
Heat 2 tablespoons ghee and fry all the nuts for 2 minutes.
Step 10
Add the nuts to the payasam and add 1/2 teaspoon elachi powder. Mix well and enjoy it.
