This Tomato Onion Chutney belongs to the Andhra region of South India and is one of my favorites after Coconut chutney to serve along with Dosa, Idli & Vada.
Ingredients (For Chutney)
- 1 Tablespoon Oil
- 1 Tablespoon urad Dal
- 6-8 Dry Red Chilies
- 1 Teaspoon Jeera
- 3 Garlic Cloves
- 3 Piece Ginger1 Cup Onion
- 1 1/2 Cup Tomatoes
- 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- Salt as per taste
Ingredients (For Seasoning)
- 1/2 Teaspoon Jeera Seeds
- 1/2 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
- Few Red Chilies
- Few Curry Leaves
Method
Step 1
Heat 1 tablespoon oil, add 1 tablespoon urad dal, 6-8 dry red chilies, 1 teaspoon Jeera, and sauté for 1 minute.
Step 2
Add 3 cloves garlic, 3 pieces of ginger, and sauté for 1 minute.
Step 3
Add 1 cup onions, 1 1/2 cup tomatoes, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, and cook until tomatoes are soft.
Step 4
Turn off the stove and let the mixture cool.
Step 5
Add the mixture into the grinder, add salt, and make a smooth paste. Take it into the bowl.
Step 6
Heat 1 teaspoon oil, add Jeera, mustard seeds, few red chilies, and few curry leaves.
Step 7
Add the seasoning to the tomato-onion chutney.
Step 8
Serve it with dosa or idli.
