Chekkalu is a traditional fried snack from Andhra and Telangana that is crunchy and delicious. These are made in most Telugu speaking homes during festivals. Chekkalu is made using rice flour, chana dal, and spices.
- 1/2 Cup Chana Dal
- 3 Cups Water
- 2 Tablespoons Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tablespoon Jeera
- 1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- 1/4 Cup Chopped Curry Leaves
- 1/2 Cup Chopped Coriander Leaves
- 1 1/2 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 3 Tablespoons Butter
- 3 Cups Rice Flour
- Oil for Deep Fry
Soak chana dal for 15 minutes.
Add 3 cups of water to a pot. Add 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds, 1 tablespoon jeera, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/4 teaspoon ginger garlic paste, 1/4 teaspoon chopped curry leaves, 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves, 1 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder, 1 teaspoon salt, and mix well.
Add 3 tablespoon butter and mix well.
Add 3 cups of rice flour in boiling water and mix well. Now add soaked chana dal and mix well. Close the lid and cook for 1 minute.
After 1 minute, take the flour to the plate. Add little water and make a smooth dough.
Make small balls and keep them aside.
Press the dough in puri presser like thin like puri.
Heat oil in a Kadai and deep fry them until golden brown and crispy.
Take them out and enjoy the crispy chekkalu.
