Sorakaya (Bottle Gourd) Pulusu

Sorakaya Pulusu Recipe or Bottle Gourd Curry Andhra Style is a delicious tamarind based gravy prepared with bottle gourd, the curry has a little sweet and tangy taste. Goes with steamed white rice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Medium Sorakaya

  • 1 Tablespoon Oil

  • 1 Cup Sliced Onion

  • 3 Chopped Green Chilies

  • 1 Teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste

  • 1 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder

  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Tomatoes

  • 1 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder

  • 3/4 Teaspoon Salt

  • 1/2 Cup Tamarind Water

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Sugar

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Coriander

  • Coriander Leaves


Method:

  1. Peel the skin of sorakaya and cut it into pieces. Keep it aside.

  2. Heat 1 tablespoon oil, add 1 cup sliced onion and 3 chopped green chilies.

  3. Sauté onions until lightly golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and turmeric powder.

  4. Add 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes and cook until tomatoes are soft.

  5. Add sorakaya pieces and mix well. Close the lid and cook for 2 minutes.

  6. Add 1 teaspoon red chili powder, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and add 1/2 cup water. Close the lid and cook for 1 minute.

  7. Add 1/2 cup tamarind water, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder and cook for 1 minute.

  8. Add coriander leaves and turn off the stove.
