Masala Vada, a crispy and savory deep-fried fritter made from chana dal and spices, is a popular street food of South Indian cuisine. Adding colocasia leaves gives you a unique taste.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Chana Dal
- 2 Colocasia Leaves
- 5 Red Chilies
- 5 Green Chilies
- 1 Teaspoon Jeera Seeds
- 1/4 Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- Salt as per taste
- 1/4 Teaspoon Coriander Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
- 1 Tablespoon Soaked Chana Dal
- 1 Teaspoon Ajwain Seeds
- 1/2 Cup Chopped Onions
- 1/2 Teaspoon Chaat Masala
Ingredients (For Colocasia Stems Chutney)
- Chopped Stems
- Few Garlic Pieces
- Few Green Chilies
- Soaked Tamarind
- Salt as per taste
Method
Step 1
Soak the chana dal for 5-6 hours.
Step 2
Chop the colocasia leaves and keep them aside.
Step 3
Add soaked chana dal in the grinder and add 5 red chilies, 5 green chilies, 1 teaspoon jeera seeds. Grind it coarsely and take it to the bowl.
Step 4
Add 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder, salt as per taste, 1/4 teaspoon coriander powder, 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste, 1 tablespoon soaked chana dal, 1 teaspoon ajwain seeds, 1/2 cup chopped onions, and 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala. Mix well.
Step 5
Heat oil in a Kadai and make patties with chana dal mixture.
Step 6
Deep fry the patties in oil until golden brown. Take it out and serve hot with chutney.
Method (For Colocasia Stems Chutney)
- Peel the skin from colocasia stems and cut them into pieces.
- Add the pieces to the grinder and add few garlic cloves, few green chilies, soaked tamarind, salt as per taste.
- Grind it into a smooth paste and serve it with chana dal vada.
